What is language?
Language is a system of symbols, words, gestures, and more used to communicate meaning.
Language itself changes fore everyone depending on the experiences of the audience and what they learned.
What is a primary message?
The intentional message the source meant tot send. The words and language used are the primary message.
What is a Secondary Message?
The unintentional content that was sent through both verbal or non-verbal methods
What is an Auxiliary Message?
The intentional and unintentional ways a primary message is sent.
What are the parts of a message?
The attention statement, introduction, body, conclusion, and residual message
What is an Attention Statement?
An attention statement is the opening of a message that grabs the attention of the audience.
One of the best ways to get said attention is telling the audience what they can gain from this speech or message.
What is an introduction?
A clear statement about the topic that will be discussed.
One example is creating common ground and establishing a relationship with them.
What is the body?
Where the detail of the message is organized and sent. The points should be clear and include evidence and support.
What is the conclusion?
Restate the main points to give closure
What is the residual message?
The residual message is what the speaker wants the audience to take away from the speech. it should stay with the audience after the communication is over.
What are Syntactic Rules?
Rules that govern the order of words in a sentence.
What are Semantic Rules?
Rules that govern meaning words and how they are supposed to be interpreted
What are contextual rules?
Govern meaning and word choice in reference to the context and social customs.
What is a paradigm?
Clear point of view involving theories, laws, and generalizations that give a framework.
What is a denotative meaning?
The common meaning of what is said.
