Documented infection and hypotension

What are the signs/symptoms?
A
Initial—
- vasodilation→ warm skin and full pulses
- normal urine output
Delayed—
- vasoconstriction
- poor urine output
- mental status change
- hypotension

What percentage of blood cultures is positive in patients withbacterial septic shock?
A
Only ≈50%!

What are the associated findings?
A
Fever, hyperventilation, tachycardia

What is the treatment?
A
- Volume (IVF)
- Antibiotics (empiric, then by cultures)
- Drainage of infection
- Pressors PRN (SOS)
