Chapter 22 Introduction To Exercise Modalities Flashcards
What do exercise modalities provide for the client?
improve exercise and its movement to create a desired outcome
What type of modalities are there?
Resistance training equipment, balance tools, fitness trackers
What are the pros and cons when using resistance training mahcines?
They offer safer and are effective to free weight. But they do not improve core stability and muscular coordination
how are cable machines usefull?
They allow more ROM than strength machines. It is important to match the cables resistance to the muscles natural line of pull
What are opportunities of using elastics bands and/ or tubing
Allows clients to mimic sport specific movements. It is portable , inexpensive . However it is not ideal when developing levels of strength and muscular hypertrophy.
How are medicine balls useful?
They can add resistance and instability to exercises. They can be used to increase muscular strength, endurance, power and in some cases rehabilitation
How are kettle bells different than free weight?
Their center of gravity is away from the handle. This causes more strength and coordination. In turn requires the synergistic and primer movers to work simultaneously
How can sandbags be used?
They can be carried, lifted, thrown and have several handles. They also create continuous instability
What is the ViPR
Acronym for vitality, performance, and recodniting. The ViPR can be thrown, tossed, pressed carried and dragged. Gives movement training.
How are battle ropes helpful?
They create low impact and have different lengths and thickness
What is the suggested size for Swiss ball per person.
< 5” = 45 cm
5’1” -5’7”= 55cm
5’8”-6’= 65 cm
> 6’ = 75 cm
