Chapter 17 Balance Training Concepts Flashcards
What is important about balance trainings
Improve performance, resistant to injury and rehabilitation.
Define balance
To control body position based on center of gravity
What are the different types of balance? Define them
Static (what it sounds like), semi dynamic (the base of support is moving), dynamic (ever changing base of support)
What are the balance mechanisms
Vision, somato sensation, vestibular senses
What hase balance training been proven to improve?
Performance, reduce injury
Can balance training reduce the risk of falls in healthy older adults
Yes
What should fitness professionals keep in mind when design a training regimen
Design a progressive training program, especially for those with a history of falls or injury
What variables are manipulated during balance training program
Planes, ROM, SOM proprioceptive environment
Balance training progression 1
Have little to no motion in joint of balance leg. To increase reflexive autonomic muscle contractions to increase joint stability
Balance training progression 2
Involve eccentric and concentric movement of the balance leg through a full ROM. Include multi plane lunges or single leg movement
Balance training progression 3
This involves to develop proper deceleration ability to move the body from a dynamic state to a controlled stationary position
