What is Syncope or Fainting?
A brief loos of consciousness of about a minute or two.
What happens when a patient remains unconscious for longer time?
Might require EMS activation.
A Syncopal episode can be caused by?
Temporary lack of adequate blood flow to the brain.
What are possible triggers for a Syncopal episode?
Severe pain , emotional stress, unpleasant sights, hypoglycemia, some medications and cardiac arrhythmias.
What are some symptoms that patients may experience?
Shakiness, lightheadedness, tingling of the hands and feet, nausea paleness or clammy skin.
What happens when a patient feels faint?
Assist the patient to a seated position and place their head between their knees until the symptoms resolve.
