What does not enough insulin can cause?
An elevated level of sugar (hyperglycemia) which can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
What is Ketoacidosis?
A condition in which waste products called ketones are produced and build up in the blood and urine.
Diabetic Ketoacidosis is most common in people with?
Type 1 diabetes.
What are symptoms of Ketoacidosis?
Dehydration, extreme thirst, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, confusion, etc.
Is Ketoacidosis a life-threatening condition?
Yes.
What happens when someone has Ketoacidosis?
Should immediately be transferred to the hospital for immediate treatment with IV insulin, fluid and electrolyte replacement.
Diabetic Ketoacidosis is often the first sign of?
Diabetes in an individual who was previously undiagnosed.
