Diabetics may experience life-threatening emergencies from?
Too much or too little insulin in their bodies.
What does too much insulin can cause?
Low sugar level (hypoglycemia) and can lead to insulin shock.
What happens if the blood sugar falls too low?
The body no longer has enough fuel to carry out its functions.
What happens to the body with an Insulin shock?
The body is so starved for fuel it begins to shut down.
If left untreated what does Insulin shock can lead to?
Diabetic come, brain damage and even death.
What are the symptoms of insulin shock?
Dizziness, shakiness, irritability, rapid pulse, clamminess and hunger.
What does a Hypoglycemic patient can be offered?
Fruit juice, candy, sugar cubes or glucose tablets.
What will happens if consuming the sugar doesn’t end the shock symptoms?
Patient must be transported immediately to the hospital.
Can Glucagon be administered to an unconscious patient?
Yes, but only works for a short time.
What can return the patient to consciousness?
A small amount of sugar under the tongue (patient should be transported to the hospital).
