What are the ways to choose food wisely when eating out.
● Avoid appetisers which are breaded, fried or filled
with cheese or fatty meat

What is a balanced diet.
A balanced diet is whereby our body obtains all the essential nutrients in the correct proportions.
What is an unbalanced diet.
An unbalanced diet does not supply the right amounts of nutrients needed and often leads to malnutrition.
What is a malnutrition
Malnutrition occurs when there is insufficient or excessive intake of energy and nutrients in our diet.
Malnutrition includes both under-nutrition and over-nutrition.
What is the difference between over-nutrition and under nutrition.
Over-nutrition is caused by having an excessive intake of nutrients in the diet while under nutrition is caused by having an insufficient intake of nutrients.
What are the factors to consider when planning meals.
● Physiological factors
● Economic factors
● Psychological factors
● Social factors
What are the ways to modify meals.
● Modifying the portion sizes of food - Reduce the
amount of food served in a meal
● Use healthier methods of cooking - Grilling, Boiling,
Steaming or Baking
● Reduce or substituting ingredients
- Reduce the amount of added fats, sugar or salt in
food by using herbs and spices
- Prepare food using low-energy, high-nutrient
ingredient
Eating disorders are more commonly found in adolescents as compared to other age-groups.
They are at the age where they can easily be influenced by unrealistic beauty standards potrayed in the media which causes them to think that being thin is fashionable.
Explain what is Vegan or strict vegetarian.
Vegans do not eat any food which is of animal origin.
Explain what is Lacto-vegetarian.
Lacto vegetarias do not eat any animal meat including seafood and poultry. They do not eat eggs, but eat animal products such as butter, milk and cheese.
Explain what is Lacto-ovo-vegetarian,
Lacto-ovo vegetarians do not eat any animal meat including seafood and poultry. However they do eat animal products such as butter, milk, cheese and eggs.
