How did the trials and successes of Jamestown manifest the core values of freedom, individualism, equality, and growth? What contradictions to these values began to develop?
Freedom:The colony had its own representative government, people were free to determine their own fate in the New World, even indentured servants could gain their freedom. Individualism: The people were forced to be self reliant. I denatured servants could have their own land, but they had to work for it. Equality: Everyone was recruited to work hard and contribute to the success of the colony. Growth: As the colony succeeded the wealth of the people increased. Contradictions: These core values denied to the Africans were eventually became slaves in Virginia
What was the difference between Puritans and Separatists?
Puritans,wanted to purify the state church from within by pushing for reforms that would rid England of Romanist influences and bring greater spiritual vitality to the nation.
Separatists,believed that each local congregation should be independent of all other churches and free to worship and serve God without interference.
