Chapter 19 Studying Flashcards
What is the formula to determine speed?
V = d/delta time
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Velocity is speed with a direction
How do you determine net force?
By adding the forces if both are in the same direction, and subtracting them if they are going in opposite directions
What causes an object to move?
WHEN an unbalanced force acts on it
What does the net force of 0 N mean?
The object doesn’t move (Balanced force)
What are to factors that determine the amount of friction?
The weight of the object and the amount of force on the object
What is an example of kinetic friction?
Sliding a book on the table
What is an example of static friction?
Trying to push a piece of furniture but it doesn’t move
How would you reduce friction?
By lubricating the object or making the surface smoother
What happens to the force of gravity when the distance between the objects increases?
The gravitational pull decreases
When is the gravitational pull the greatest between two objects?
when they are close together
How could you reduce friction when trying to move heavy furniture?
Put wheels on it to change sliding kinetic friction to rolling kinetic friction
What is the formula to determine distance?
D = Xf - Xi
Distance = final position - initial position
The Independent variable is on the… (x or y axis)
X axis
The dependent variable is on the… (x or y axis)
Y axis
