Chapter 19 -> Mitosis, Cytokinesis, Meiosis Flashcards
What is Prophase?
Replicated chromosomes condense and mitotic spindle begins to assemble outside of nucleus
What occurs during Prometaphase?
Nuclear envelope breaks down, spindle microtubules connect with chromosomes
What occurs during Metaphase?
Mitotic spindle gathers all of the chromosomes to the center of the spindle
What occurs during Anaphase?
Two sister chromatids split apart, spindle draws them to opposite poles of the cell
What occurs during Telophase?
Nuclear envelope reassembles around each of the two sets of chromosomes to form the two nuclei
What occurs during cytokinesis?
Cytoplasm divides into 2 aided by contractile ring
What are the benefits of sexual reproduction?
Mixing of genomes from two people, competitive advantage
Haploid cells are generated when a diploid cell undergoes _______
Here, the chromosomes of the double chromosome set are partitioned out into single chromosomes
Meiosis
2 Different haploid gametes fuse to make a _______
Diploid cell/zygote
What do germ line cells produce?
Gametes
What is meiosis
The duplication of chromosomes followed by TWO cell divisions
