Chapter 17 Pwpt Flashcards
Findings are?
Results, conclusions, interpretations, recommendations, generalizations, implications for future research and nursing practice
Findings are presented in two major areas…
Results and discussion of the results
Results section should
Demonstrate objectivity and reassure the reader the strength of the study
Identify tests used and data obtained
relevance or usefulness of findings from data analysis
Statistically significant findings should include?
Design strength
Limitations identified
Bias controlled
Unsupported hypothesis (statistically insignificant findings) should?
Testing existence practice
Basis for continued research
What is the reason for a table?
To report results with some detain that the investigator does not explore in the test
A good table is one that meets the following criteria:
Supplements the text – does not repeat information in the text
Economizes the text by reducing the large amount of data into easily observable information
Has precise titles and headings
The discussion section should be?
An Interpretation of the results
Discuss the studies limitations (weaknesses)
Recommendations for practice, theory and future research
Recommendations include: what contribution does the study make to nursing?
Clinical practice
Nursing theory
Future research
Critiquing criteria for research findings?
How does the investigator attempt to identify the study’s weaknesses (i.e., threats to internal and external validity and strengths) as well as suggest possible solutions for the research area?
Does the researcher discuss the study’s clinical relevance?
Are any generalizations made, and if so are they within the scope of the findings or beyond the findings?
Are any recommendations for future research stated or implied?
What is the study’s strength of evidence?
