CHAPTER 14- Ocular anatomy and physiology Part 2 (2) Flashcards
How do electrical signals leave the retina?
The electrical signals leave via ganglion cell axons, which make up the optical nerve.
There are 2 major blood vessels that occur within the optic disc. What are they and what do they do?
1- Central retinal artery (CRA)
2- Central retinal vein (CRV)
These supply and drain blood to and from the retina
What is the macula region?
The region where there are no blood vessels
Where is the region which has the most densely packed photoreceptors and what does this result in?
The fovea. As a result, the fovea has the highest acuity vison.
The ocular adnexa incorporate those parts of the orbital region that are outside of the eyeball, including:
1- Extraocular muscles (eye movement)
2- Eyelids (spreading of tear film)
What does the extraocular muscles include?
Includes six sets of skeletal muscles which can produce a range of eye movements.
