Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
People with this disorder have a distinct fear of social situations and scrutiny by others
Social Anxiety Disorder
Persistent and uncontrollable tenseness and apprehension. high autonomic nervous system arousal. Inability to identify or avoid cause of certain feelings
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Symptoms - minutes long episodes of intense dread which may include feelings of terror, chest pains, choking, or other frightening sensations.
Panic Disorder
Moderate mood swings from sad to happy in cycles.
Cyclothymia
Schizophrenia: Belief one possesses special powers
Delusions of grandeur
a disorder or collection of symptoms that appears to only appear in a specific culture or small collection of people
Culture-Bound Syndrome
Biopsychosocial Perspective: brain structure and function, genes, neurochemical imbalances
Biological Factors
Mild, chronic depression that lasts for at least two years
Dysthemia
roles and expectations, modeled behaviors, cultural beliefs
Sociocultural Factors
Negative view of experiences, self, and the future
Beck’s triad definition of depression
Formerly called manic-depressive disorder. An alternation between depression and mania signals this disorder
Bipolar disorder
Patterns of thoughts, feelings, or actions that are deviant, distressful, and dysfunctional
Psychological Disorders
Persistent, rigid, and maladaptive patterns of behavior
Personality disorders
Tendency for people to believe they have no control over the consequences of their behaviors, resulting in passive behaviors
