Chapter 13 Flashcards
What is the observational research design?
the researcher observes and systematically records the behaviour of individuals to describe behaviour.
What is content analysis?
using the techniques of behavioural observation to measure the occurrence of specific events in literature, movies, television programs, or similar media that present replicas of behaviours.
What is archival research?
involves looking at historical records (archives) to measure behaviours or events that occurred in the past.
What is naturalistic observation or non-participant observation?
a researcher observes behaviour in a natural setting as unobtrusively as possible (high degrees of external validity because the behaviour is examined in real-world setting as opposed to laboratories)
What is participant observation?
when the researcher engages in the same activities as the people being observed in order to observe and record their behaviour.
What is contrived observation or structured observation?
the observation of behaviour in settings arranged specifically to facilitate the occurrence of specific behaviours
What is a survey research design?
a research study that uses a survey to obtain a description of a particular group of individuals
What is the case study design?
involves the in-depth study and detailed description of a single individual (or a very small group). It may involve an intervention or treatment administered by the researcher. When a case study does not include any treatment or intervention, it is often called a CASE HISTORY
