What was birth control methods in medieval times?
Saturating a sponge with a substance such as lemon juice, vinegar, or olive oil, and placing the sponge in the vagina before sex. After sex, this was typically followed by douching with wine or more vinegar in an effort to kill any sperm that remained alive in the vagina.
Condom’s history
18th century in Italy avoiding pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Most early condoms were made of animal intestines. They were typically used more than once and their integrity had to be tested before each use. This was done by inflating them with air.
Mass-produced rubber condoms became available in the late 1800s, followed by latex condoms in the 1930s.
Diaphragm’s history
Prevent fertilization by covering the female cervix during sex
The first diaphragms were half-squeezed lemons. In the mid-1800s, manufactured diaphragms were invented and served as the most popular method of birth control until the 1960s
