-Effective contraception (the pill, not the condom)- there was a fear that if you got pregnant and were not married you may be left a single mother
-Greater acceptance of female sexuality with the idea that women can control their own body
-Postponement of marriage (avg 28-39)- long time and sometimes viewed as too much to ask
