Chapter 10 - Stoichiometry Flashcards
When the relative amounts of two reaction components are expressed as a ratio.
Mole ratio
The ratio of the actual yield to the theoretical yield, expressed as a percentage.
percent yield
Calculations involving the relative amounts of various reactants and products that participate in a chemical reaction.
Stoiciometry
The reactant that is initially present in a greater amount than
will eventually be reacted. It is the one left over.
excess reactant (or excess reagent)
The amount of product that is actually formed when the reaction is carried out in the laboratory.
actual yield
The maximum amount of product that could be formed from the given amounts of reactants.
theoretical yield
The reactant that determines the amount of product that can be formed in a chemical reaction. It is the one that runs out first.
limiting reactant (or limiting reagent)
