Broadcasting of thought
believes thoughts can be heard or known by others
Echo
hears own thoughts as if they were spoken aloud
Insertion
someone has ability to transmit thoughts into their head
Withdrawal
someone has ability to make them lose thoughts
Delusions
cannot rationally speak to person
Pathognomonic indicator
only indicative of one particular disease
Second-rank symptoms
frequently associated with Sz, but not exclusively (mood problems, non-auditory hallucinations)
Prodromal phase
deterioration in self care, socially withdrawn
Acute phase
positive symptoms, hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech, losing associations
Residual phase
retraction of positive symptoms, similar to prodromal phase, element of disordered thinking remains
Neologisms
made up words, feel smug when you say you don’t know the meaning
Perseveration
keep returning to certain things, difficulty letting go
Clanging
choosing words that rhyme in way that doesn’t make sense
Blocking
shutting down
Hypervigilance
constantly assessing threats around you
Command hallucinations
when someone/something is telling them what to do
Disorganized schizophrenia
giggling, laughing, and making facial grimaces for no apparent reason
Catatonic schizophrenia
disturbances in motor activity and cognitive functioning
Waxy flexibility
limbs adjusted and person remains that way
Rigid
cannot move person’s limbs
Paranoid schizophrenia
delusions about being harmed, conspiracies
Delusional disorder
have delusions but no psychotic features
Schizophreniform disorder
identical to schizophrenia, but does not last for 6 months
Double-blind communications theory
children shaped to say what they think parents want to hear, but are incompatible with their true feelings
