what are drives?
psychological state that creates arousal in order to motivate an organism to satisfy a need
what is the Yerkes-Dodson Law?
lower arousal=poor performance
moderate arousal=optimal performance
high arousal=poor performance
what are incentives?
external objects or goals that motivate our behavior
what is intrinsic motivation?
do something because it brings us joy or pleasure on its own
what is extrinsic motivation?
do something to achieve an external reward like a goal or a paycheck
what is the self determination theory?
external motivation can undermine internal motivation
what is self regulation?
the process by which people change their behavior to attain personal goals
what is self efficacy?
the expectation that your efforts will lead to success
what is achievement motive?
the desire to do well relative to standards of excellence
