cortisone
synthetic derivative of the natural corticosteroid hormone cortisol. Used to decrease the inflammatory response.
hydrocortisone
found in very diluted concentrations of OTC creams. Aloe vera works better, don’t waste your money. Formulated in prescription strength as an enema (Cortenema) for use in cases of Crohn’s disease/ ulcerative colitits.
prednisone
one of most popular corticosteroids (usually administered orally)
methylprednisolone (Solu-Medrol)
corticosteroid, administered by an IV and used in emergency cases, such as treatment of anaphylaxsis. Also used to treat systemic inflammation.
triamcinolone (Kenalog)
Common corticosteroid; Some people think it is an “allergy” shot. It can be used in everything from creams to nasal sprays, to pills and injections.
betamethasone
Common corticosteroid; It can be used in everything from creams to nasal sprays, to pills and injections.
