Chapter 10 Flashcards
disease causing agent.
virulent
Monomers that make up DNA and RNA.
Nucleotides
Each nucleotide has 3 parts name them
deoxyribose
A phosphate group
A nitrogen base.
Adenine always bonds to
thymine
Cytosine always bonds to
guanine
the structure of a DNA molecule
double helix
The process of duplication in a DNA molecule.
Replication
causes the DNA to “unzip” down the middle.
DNA helicase
DNA polymerase
catalyzes the sugar to phosphate bonds that connects one nucleotide to the next one.
Serves as a template of pattern for the assembly of amino acids during protein synthesis.
Messenger RNA (mRNA)
Attaches to amino acids in the cytoplasm and brings them to the ribosomes.
Transfer RNA (tRNA)
In a globular form. Main part of ribosomes. Function not yet known.
Ribosomal RNA (rRNA)
Producing RNA from DNA.
Transcription
The formation of proteins using information coded on DNA and RNA molecules.
Protein Synthesis
the system that contains information needed by the cell for proper functioning.
Genetic code
