- pushing children to compete for rewards instead of the physical mental social and spiritual benefits of activity
- parents who live vicariously through their children

Creates motivational role models who push kids to participate in physical activity

- distorted meaning of what it means to be an accomplished performer
Social/peer influences
- Participation in sport comes with social benefits incurred in meeting new people
