A pattern of cooperation and common action ins a traditional village that sought to uphold the moral, economic, and social stability in a closely-knit community.

illegitimacy explosion
The sharp increase in out-of-wedlock births that occurred in Europe between 1750 and 1850 , caused by low wages and the breakdown of community controls.
wet-nursing
A widespread and flourishing business in which women were paid to breast-feed other woman’s babies.
blood sports
Events such as bullbaiting and cockfighting that unfold inflicting violence and bloodshed on animals (popular in 18th century Europe)
carnival
a time of reveling and access in Catholic Europe, especially in Mediterranean countries. Carnival preceded lent, and for a few days it allowed a wild release of drinking, masquerading, and dancing.
just price
belief of people in Europe that prices should be “fair” protecting both the consumer and producers. usually just prices were used to regulate the price of bread, the staple food in Europe during this time.
consumer revolution
as more goods flooded into Europe and people began working for wages, people were able to buy more. this caused what is now known as the consumer revolution
pietism
A protestant revival movement in the eighteenth century Germany and Scandinavia that emphasized a warm emotional religion, the priesthood of all believers, and the power of Christian rebirth in everyday affairs.
Methodists
founded by John Wesley, a group of people that were so methodical in their religion that they became known as Methodists
Jansenism
A sect of Catholicism origination with Cornelius Jansen that emphasized the heavy weight of original sin and accepted the doctrine of predestination; It was outlawed by the pope.
