adequate diet
Adequate Diet- Food and water intake that includes sufficient energy and nutrients to meet basic requirements for healthy living.
adequate sleep
Adequate Sleep- The necessary amount of sleep for individuals to function effectively during the daytime and cope with normal daily stress.
anxiety
Anxiety- The emotional state we feel when we anticipate threat or danger, causing feelings of fear, worry, dread or uneasiness, the threat may be specific or ambiguous.
authentic social support
Authentic Social Support- Authenticity is a personal trait that reflects the extent to which a person is genuine and true to themselves and in their interactions with others; involves self-understanding in terms of recognising and owning own our own thoughts and emotional responses, including personal weaknesses, strengths, goals and values, authentic people behave with truth and integrity towards others and provide authentic social support when they truly listen to and connect with the experiences of another person.
cognitive behavioral strategies
Cognitive Behavioural Strategies- Structured psychological techniques that can be applied to help people recognise how negative or unproductive patterns of thinking and behaviour affect their emotions, aimed at helping people think in new ways to promote more positive feelings and behaviours.
cultural continuity
Cultural Continuity- The transmission and transformation of the traditional knowledges, values and practices of a cultural group over generations, connecting the past with the present and future.
cultural determinants
Cultural Determinants- The protective factors that support the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that come from connecting to culture, Country and spirituality (embedded within family/kinship and community connections).
diet
Diet- The food a person regularly eats, considered in terms of its quality, composition and effects on health.
energizing social support
Energising Social Support- In interpersonal relationships, a persons capacity to promote feelings of motivation, engagement and action in others; social support is energising when there is a positive relational energy between people.
hydration
Hydration- Replenishing a lack of water in the body.
meditation
Meditation- A set of techniques that is intended to encourage a heightened state of awareness and focused attention.
mindfulness
Mindfulness- A state of awareness that arises when we pay non-judgemental attention to our thoughts and feelings in the present moment.
mindfulness meditation
Mindfulness Meditation- A meditation practice in which a person focuses attention on their breathing, with thoughts, feelings and sensations being experienced freely as they arise and without judgement; intended to enable people to become highly attentive to sensory information and to focus on each moment as it occurs.
nutritional intake
Nutritional Intake- The daily eating patterns of an individual, including specific foods and calories consumed and relative quantities.
protective factor
Protective Factor- Any behavioural, biological, psychological or environmental characteristic that decreases the likelihood of a person developing a particular mental health problem or disorder.
