Challenging hip muscles Flashcards
Psoas major origin
Bodies and TP of lumbar vertebrae
Psoas major insertion
Lesser trochanter of the femur
Psoas major actions
Flex and possibly laterally rotate the hip. Laterally flex the lumbar spine.
TFL actions
Flex, medially rotate and abduct the hip
Adductor longus origin
Pubic tubercle
Adductor longus insertion
Medial lip of the linea aspera
Adductor longus actions
Adduct, medially rotate and assist to flex the hip.
Adductor magnus origin
Inferior ramus of the pubis, ramus of the ischium and the ischial tuberosity
Adductor magnus insertion
Medial lip of the linea aspera and the adductor tubercle
Actions of the adductor magnus
Adduct, medially rotate and assist to flex the hip. Posterior fibers also extend the hip.
Adductor brevis origin
Inferior ramus of the pubis
Adductor brevis insertion
Pectineal line and medial lip of teh linea aspera
Adductor brevis actions
Adduct, medially rotate and assist to flex the hip.
Gracilis origin
Inferior ramus of the pubis
Gracilis insertion
Proximal, medial shaft of the tibia at the pes anserinus tendon
Gracilis actions
Adduct and medially rotate the hip and flex and medially rotate the knee
Sartorius origin
ASIS
Sartorius insertion
Proximal, medial shaft of the tibia at the pes anserinus tendon
Sartorius actions
Flex, laterally rotate and abduct the hip, flex and medially rotate the knee.
Quadratus femoris origin
Lateral border of the ischial tuberosity
Quadratus femoris insertion
Intertrochanteric crest, between the greater and lesser trochanters
Quadratus femoris actions
Laterally rotate the hip
Piriformis origin
Anterior surface of the sacrum
Piriformis insertion
Superior aspect of the greater trochanter
