Anemia
blood produces a lower than normal amount of healthy red blood cells (common in females b/c of menstruation)
Iron Deficiency Anemia
the body can’t make new RBCs due to dietary deficient Iron intake
Aplastic Anemia
bone marrow is not able to produce RBCs (usually due to chemo; needs blood transfusion)
Hemolytic Anemia
destruction of RBCs; blood cells destroyed faster than can be made (needs blood transfusion)
Sickle-Cell Anemia
genetic disorder where bone marrow produces mis-shaped RBCs (crescent moon shaped cells, very painful)
Hemophilia
genetic disorder where you cannot clot properly (thrombocytes)
Leukemia
cancer of the bone marrow where WBCs are over-produced & don’t function properly
Multiple Myeloma
malignant cancer in bone marrow which produces abnormal plasma cells
Polycythemia
excessive production of RBCs… also bone marrow disorder… not cancerous
