Ankylosis
a stiff joint caused by adhesion or abnormal fusion of 2 bones into 1
Osteoarthritis
Cartilage degeneration from inflamed synovial fluid. Results from injury to a joint, made worse by increased forces (sports), weight bearing, etc.
End Stage = joint replacement
AKA - OA, Degenerative Joint Disease, or DJD/wear and tear arthritis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
patients own immune system is causing inflammation in fluid
Gout
another autoimmune arthritis in which uric acid crystals are deposited into the joint
Kyphosis
accentuated thoracic curve (mostly occurs due to osteoporosis-chronic loss of bone density or calcium) (older patients only; treatment: exercise, diet, meds)
Lordosis
exaggerated lumbar curve (swayback)
Myeloma
Malignant tumor of the bone marrow (is cancerous)
Ostealgia
bone pain
Osteomyelitis
infection of bone and bone marrow (endogenous & exogenous; usually exogeneous)
Osteosarcoma
malignant tumor of the bone (is cancerous) (connective tissue)
Scoliosis
exaggerated or any later curve thoracic and lumbar spine (treatment: Harrington Rod Surgery)
Subluxation
malalignment of a joint
