Treatment principles for a toothache

A
  1. dental hygiene. Brush teeth and flush mouth with disinfected water
  2. cover/fill holes with CAVIT, wax or sugarless gum
  3. consider pain management 3-3-3 rule. 3 Advil, 3 times a day, for 3 days.
  4. evacuate if the pain is persistent or debilitating

  2. assess bite, if teeth done come together, there might b a jaw fracture
  3. look for broken off dental fragments, they could be bound together by a dentist.
  4. seal painful exposed nerves from air and temperature changes with Cavit, wax or sugarless gum
  5. if biting down causes pain, consider rolled up gauze on back molars
  6. consider pain medications
  7. consider evacuation

Treatment principles for a knocked loose or out tooth

  1. irrigate but do not scrub tooth
  2. attempt to replace the avulsed tooth in the socket
  3. if tooth cannot be replaced, it should be kept in an appropriate storage medium. Save-A-tooth. Milk. Saliva and water. wrapping in sterile gauze and having patient carry the tooth their cheek
  4. pain medications 3-3-3 rule
  5. evac for dental care

  2. use a syringe to irrigate under flaps of skin, firmly and gently
  3. brush and floss the area
  4. patient can additional use mouthwash or water to rinse and spit
  5. pain will increase because of irritation but should diminish in 3-4 hours
  6. if biting down causes pain consider rolled up gauze on back molars.
  7. consider pain medications 3-3-3 rule
  8. consider evac if pain does not improve
