- evacuate if symptoms become systemic or wound will not heal

- treat mild to moderate reactions with an oral antihistamine
- monitor and treat anaphylaxis as necessary

Prevention of tick bites
A
- perform tick checks twice daily
- wear light colored long pants and shirt while traveling in tick country
- consider using deet and permethrin to repel ticks from clothing
- remove all ticks immediately by grasping them close to the skin with needle-nose tweezers and pulling gently, steady TIL
- wash bite site and monitor for signs and symptoms of infection.
