  2. Nausea and or vomiting
  3. loss of appetite
  4. Exercise associated muscle cramps
  5. LOR. Dizziness and possible fainting
  6. Elevated H.R and R.R
  7. SCTM Pain cool clammy or slightly flush

Treatment Principles for heat Exhaustion (5)

A
  1. Rest
  2. Avoid further heat stress
  3. Hydrate
  4. Treat exercise associated muscle cramps with gentle stretching
  5. Evacuate if not improving

What is Heat Stroke

A

A life threatening emergency, patients have exaggerated heat production and inability to cool themselves. Altered mental status is an important distinguisher between heat exhaustion and head stroke

Signs and Symptoms of Heat Stroke (6)

  1. LOR disoriented, irritable, combative, unresponsive
  2. hallucinations and seizures
  3. ataxia
  4. HR & RR increase
  5. SCTM hot, color and moisture can vary
  6. temp above 104

  1. aggressive cooling - immerse in cold water. fan the patient and spray with water.
