What is a Dislocation?
A
Displacement of the bone from its normal alignment in the joint.

Signs and Symptoms of a Dislocation.
A
- Diffuse or specific pain
- Swelling/brusing
- deformity
- Tenderness/point tenderness
- Sounds cracks pops crepitis
- Altered CSMs
- Changes in range of motion.
- Deformity at joint
- History of Dislocations

Treatment Principles: Assess a Dislocation (4)
A
- Look Ask Feel (LAF)
- Check CSM
- Acute or Chronic MOI
- Assess usability

A
- Start as soon as possible After Patient Assessment System
- Slow Steady Traction in line (TIL)
- Go until pain is unmanageable or you are met with resistance
- After reduction splint usable and un usable injury.
- If reduction does not occur splint in position
- monitor CSM before and after reduction/splinting
- Consider Evacuation

Treatment Principles: Pain Management
A
- Ice: cool area 20-40 mins continue evert 2-4 hours
- Elevate injury above heart to reduce swelling.
- consider pain medication

A
- Any patient with a unusable injury
- Dislocation that will nor reduce
- First time Dislocation
