CH10 Flashcards
Nail resin systems
what are nail resin systems
any group of products using nail resin to build strength/structure over natural nail/tip. used for overlaying/extending natural nails. rarely used alone on nail-easily removed
used for- repairing crack
-colored dip systems
-made from cyanoacrylate.
what is cyanoacrylate
what nail resins are made from
- colorless liquid acrylate monomer easily cured, powerful fast acting adhesive. vary in viscosity (thickness of resin liquid)
thinner viscosity=better adhesion and faster to cure. very thin ones could be referred to as nail clue/tip adhesive. usually a base
thicker viscosity= resin/building resin. used to build/ top coat
what is a resin accelerator (activator)
speeds up dry time. may need if resin is too viscious that they need a resin accelerator to cure. some used to save time.
come in diff forms: brush on, pump spray, aerosol
provide good adhesion and durability.
what are nail wraps
securing a layer of fabric, paper to nail to increase strength and durability
can be used to repair nail, overlay to strengthen. any type of absorbable material can be used but fabric wraps are most common.
what are the most common nail wraps
silk (smooth translucent)
fiberglass (synthetic mesh)
how to apply wrap system
apply resin
lay fabric over nail using a small piece of plastic 1/8” away from sidewall /eponychium
cut fabric to fit nail slightly smaller than nail to prevent lifting
thin a coat of resin to make invisible
can use building resin over fabric
what is a stress strip
strip of fabric applied across stress line (where free edge meets nail bed) since it is a common breaking point. adding strength
can also be applied to cracks
wrap maintenance/rebalance
2 weeks- buff nail and add resin to new growth area
4 weeks- needs additional fabric and resinw
what are dip systems
resin and polymer powder based where resin absorbs powder to create hard coating. polymer powders for dip are very different than polymer powders used in liquid and powder services.
what is dip powder-
fine polymer powder pigmented with color. can be used with liquid monomer to create nail. usually consist of dehydrator, base resin, dup powder, activator, top resin
polish base resin-dip/pour enhancement allowing resin to absorb powder- dust off excess- apply another layer of base resin(wipe brush off on lint free towel before putting back in bottle.) dip again(2 or 3 total). apply activator (wipe brush on lint free towel again) then another layer of base resin to protect powder from filing/buffing.
after shaping apply final coat of activator and wipe off with lint free towel. then polish and top with top resin (2 layers)
can last 14 days without needing LED UV lamp
how long does it take wrap resin accelerator to dissapear
2 mins
how to remove fabric wraps
acetone and wooden pusher
when do you dust off powder and apply second coat of dip
after all 10 nails are done
how long should you hold finger in dip
1-2 seconds
when performing a clear dip system extensions, how far should you keep resin base away from cuticle and lateral fold
1/2” from cuticle and 1/4” away from lateral fold
what is the difference between silk and fiberglass fabric ?
silk= thin natural tight weave becomes transparent when resin applied
fiberglass- thin synthetic mesh loose weave
