A
Pressured or forced sexual contact, including sexually stimulated talk or actions, inappropriate touching or intercourse, incest, and rape

A
- Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) “liquid ecstasy”
- Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) “roofies”
- Ketamine “black hole”

Acute phase of rape trauma syndrome
A
Occurs immediately after
Lasts about 2 weeks
Consists of initial reaction & somatic reaction

Initial reaction
A
Expressed: Emotional outbursts, including crying, laughing, hysteria, anger, & incoherence
Controlled: Appears calm & has a blunted affect, may also be confused, have difficulty making decisions, and feel numb

Somatic reaction
A
- Bruising & soreness from attack
- Muscle tension, headaches, sleep disturbances
- GI symptoms (nausea, anorexia, diarrhea, abd. pain)
- GU symptoms (vaginal pain or discomfort)
- A variety of emotional reactions, including embarrassment, a desire for revenge, guilt, anger, fear, anxiety, and denial

Long-term reorganization phase
A
- Flashbacks
- Increased activity, such as visiting friends for fear of recurrence
- Increased emotional responses (crying, anxiety, mood swings)
- Fears & phobias
- Difficulties with daily functioning
- Somatic reports

Silent rape reaction symptoms
A
- Abrupt changes in relationships with partners
- Nightmares
- Increased anxiety during interview
- Marked changes in sexual behavior
- Sudden onset of phobic reactions
