Schizophrenia
Psychotic behavior at least 6 months
Schizotypal
Impairments of personality, but not as severe as with schizophrenia
Delusional
Delusional thinking for at least 1 month
Brief psychotic
Psychotic manifestations from 1 day to 1 month
Schizophreniform
Psychotic manifestations 1-6 months
Schizoaffective
Meets both criteria for schizophrenia & depressive or bipolar disorder
Positive symptoms
Manifestation of things not normally present (hallucinations, delusions)
Negative symptoms
The absence of things that are normally present. More difficult to treat (anergia, anhedonia, flat, blunted affect)
Ideas of reference
Interprets events wrongly & attaches personal significance to them. Believes that others who are discussing food are talking about him.
Persecution
Singled out for harm. Being hunted by the FBI
Grandeur
Believes they are like a god
Somatic delusions
His body is changing in an unusual way, growing a third arm
Being controlled
Believes a force outside his body is controlling him
Though broadcasting
Her thoughts are heard by others
Thought insertion
Others’ thoughts are being inserted into his mind
