Anger
Emotional response to frustration as perceived by the individual
Aggression
Typically is goal-directed with the intent of harming a specific person or object

Preassultive
Client begins to become angry and exhibits increasing anxiety, hyperactivity, & verbal abuse
Assaultive
Client commits an act of violence. Seclusion & physical restraints may be required
Postassaultive
Staff reviews the incident with the client
Manifestations
- Hyperactivity
- Defensive response when criticized, easily offended
- Eye contact that is intense, or no eye contact at all
- Facial expressions, suc as frowning or grimacing
- Body language, such as waving arms
- Aggressive postures
- Verbal cues such as loud rapid talking
- Drug or alcohol intoxication
Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
Ziprasidone (Geodon)
Atypical antipsychotics
Controls aggressive & impulsive behaviors
Haloperidol (Haldol)
Antipsychotic
Monitor for parkinsonian & anticholinergic side effects
Monitor for NMS, indicated by muscle rigidity
Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Negativity Disobedience Hostility Defiant behaviors (esp. toward authority figures) Stubbornness Argumentativeness Limit testing Unwillingness to compromise Refusal to accept responsibility for misbehavior
Conduct disorder
Persistent pattern of behavior that violates the rights of others or rules and norms of society
