Ch. 3 What is a scientific approach to neuropsychology Flashcards
Substraction
the score (bijv. reaction time) is subtracted from the score of a more complex task in a similar condition
Single dissociation
implies that there is a specific dropout but general cognitive functioning is intact. selective dropout for task A (complex) but not for task B (simpler)
Double dissociation
Two independent tasks are Cleary distinguished that were initially thought to be strongly interdependent.
Patient 1 is able to do A but not B, patient 2 is able to do B but not A.
Single Case study
Carmazza: single case study is the only correct way to study cognitive impairment, due to the fact that no lesion is the same for all individuals within a study group
Longitudinal study
one or more patients are monitored and tested for a number of years, after which the data is analysed
Cross-sectional research
different groups of patients with the same syndrome ar tested at different times
