Q

What can clinicians do to avoid preanalytical errors

A

-Obtain anaerobically: an air bubble artificially increases PaO2 and artificially decreases PaCO2 and pH

  • Properly anti coagulated : heparin that has not been properly incorporated will artificially increase O2 and decrease CO2

-Analyzed within 15 min: if not ran in time, O2 is artificially decreased due to oxygen consumption
