Ch 17: Endocrine System Flashcards
Function of the endocrine system
Assists in Growth process and development
Growth and development
Assisting with organs and bones growing
Metabolism
Stimulate cells to take up or release glucose, produce enzymes, modify, heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration
Blood composition
Regular Kenny actions to conserve or Segree ions in water, regulate plasma, PH, blood cell numbers, and types, and plasma proteins
Reproduction
Can you regulators of reproduction in the production of gametes and preparation of female body to nourish offsprings?
What are neurotransmitters in the endocrine system called
Hormones
Similarities between nervous and endocrine system
-both systems associate with hypothalamus and epithalamus
-Use the same chemical messenger as neurotransmitter and hormone(Epinephrine)
-Both systems, cooperate together directly by nervous system
Differences of nervous and endocrine systems
Nervous: transports, by axon of a neuron. Has an instant response in the duration of the responses in milliseconds.
Endocrine: transports by bloodstream. Has a delayed response. Duration of response is in minutes/days.
What are the two nature hormones?
Lipid soluble or water-soluble
Who would have a longer half life
Lipid soluble
What hormone is for a conjunction?
Lipid soluble
Lipid, soluble, hormones
-hydrophobic
-Needs assistance in bloodstream
-Binds reversibly to proteins
Water soluble hormone
-has no binding proteins
-Located in the bloodstream
-Does not bind and unbind
Definition of half life
The amount of time it takes for half of the circulating hormone to be removed from circulation and excreted
Definition of conjunction
Specific enzymes in the liver attached to water soluble molecules to lipids, label hormones, making them unable to re-enter in the blood
