Ch 16 Flashcards
Type I Muscle Fibers
aerobic, smaller and endurance
Local muscles consist primarily of which type of muscle fiber?
Type 1
More stabilizers, deep and proximal
(rotator cuff, biceps, calves, neck muscles)
Drawing in technique can be seen during the exercise
Marching
Bracing
the co-contraction of the core.
Stabilization exercise (no spinal movement) = Prone Iso-Ab (plank)
Marching (bridge position lifting legs up and down.)
*Strength exercise (slight spinal movement) =
Reverse crunch
*Power Exercise (spinal movement) =
Med Ball Throws
During Cable Rotations (strength exercise), the final leg position is called TRIPLE EXTENSION
= hip extension, knee extension, and ankle extension (plantarflexion.)
Type 1 muscle fibers
Muscle fibers that are small in size, generate lower amounts of force, and are more resistant to fatigue.
Local vs Global muscles
Local = Attach on or near the vertebrae. Local Muscles provide dynamic control of the spinal segments, limiting excessive compression, shear, and rotational forces between spinal segments.
Global = More superficial on the trunk. Act to move the trunk, transfer loads between the upper and lower extremities and provide stability of the spine by stabilizing multiple segments together as functional units.
During the floor bridge, clients need to be cautious of
Hyperextending the low back
The core stabilizers are made up of primarily what type of muscle fiber?
Type I
Which is an example of a local muscle?
Quadratus Lumborum
