origin: iliac crest, transverse processes of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae, and ribs 3-6
insertion: ribs and transverse processes of vertebrae, 6 segments above origin
Quadratus lumborum (posterior body wall)
origin: iliac crest and lumbar fascia
insertion: transverse processes of L1-L4 and 12th rib
Pectoralis major
origin: clavicle, sternum, cartilage of ribs 2-6
insertion: fibers form short tendon that inserts into intertubercular groove of humerus
Deltoid (shoulder)
origin: acromion and spine of scapula, lateral third of clavicle
insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Serratus anterior (rib cage)
origin: ribs 1-8
insertion: vertebral border of scapula
Coracobrachialis
origin: coracoid process of scapula
insertion: shaft of humerus
Pectoralis major
origin: ribs 3-5
insertion: coracoid process of scapula
Levator scapulae
origin: transverse processes of first 4 cervical vertebrae
insertion: vertical border of scapula
Trapezius
origin: occipital bone, ligaments niche, spines of C7-T12
insertion: acromion and spinous process of scapula, lateral third of clavicle
Latissimus dorsi
origin: spinous processes of lower thoracic and all lumbar vertebrae, ribs 8-12 and jumbo
