Ch 1 Medical Imaging Techniques Flashcards
1
Q
What is Positron Emission Tomography? (PET Scans)
A
Patient gets radioactive glucose. Cells break down glucose and make gamma rays. The most active cells are more brightly colored.
2
Q
What is Sonography? (Ultrasound)
A
Uses sonar.
Does not work well on air-filled structures and in or around bone.
3
Q
What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging? (MRI)
A
Applies very large magnetic field to body.
Magnetic fields could damage soft tissues.
4
Q
What is Computed Axial Tomography? (CAT/CT)
A
An X-Ray machine that moves while the patient doesn’t.
