What is the saggital plane?
It vertically separates the body into right and left parts
What is the midsaggital plane?
Separates the body into equal right and left parts
What is the parasaggital plane?
It separates the body into unequal right and left parts
What is the frontal plane?
It vertically separates the body into anterior and posterior parts
What is the transverse/horizontal plane?
It horizontally divides the body into superior and inferior parts
What is a section?
An actual cut, no longer imaginary.
What is an oblique section?
A section cut at an angle
What are body cavities?
Spaces in the body that contain organs and can be separated from the rest of the body by bone, muscle, or connective tissue.
What is the dorsal body cavity?
Cranial cavity and vertebral cavity/canal,
Separated from body and each other by bone.
What is the ventral body cavity?
The thoracic cavity and abdominal cavity.
Separated by muscle.
What is the thoracic cavity?
Cavity in chest. Consists of pleural cavities(right/left) and mediastinum(middle).
What is the mediastinum?
A cavity in the thoracic cavity with the pericardial cavity inside.
What is the abdominopelvic cavity?
The abdominal and pelvic cavities together. The boundary is the pelvis.
What is a serous membrane?
A membrane that covers ventral cavity.
What is a parietal serous membrane?
A serous membrane attached to the cavity wall.
