Cells, Transport and Microscopes Flashcards
What is diffusion
Particles moving from an area of high to low concentration
What is osmosis
Water molecules moving into a partially permeable membrane from an area of high to low concentration
What is active transport
The movement of particles from an area of low to high concentration.
Stages of a cells life
Stage 1 Cell growth
Organelles double like ribosomes/mitochondria
Stage 2 DNA replication
Chromosones line edges of cell.
Stage 3 Mitosis
Nucleus and cytoplasm divide into 2 identical cells.
Differences between electron and light microscope
Electron microscopes have higher resolution and higher magnification. Can observe organelles of cells.
Can only observe dead things.Cant see in colour
Light microscopes can see in colour
Can observe living things
Magnification equation
Image=Magnification x Actual size
I=M A
What is in a animal cell and function of each organelle
Cell membrane controls what goes in and out of cell
Cytoplasm where all reactions occur
Nucleus contains cells DNA and chromosomes
Ribosome protein synthesis
Mitochondria aerobic respiration
