Cell structures Flashcards
Ribosomes:
Responsible for protein synthesis.
Mitochondria:
Provides the cell with energy as it is the place where respiration occurs
Nucleus:
Where genetic information (DNA) is found, responsible for controlling what happens in the cell.
Cytoplasm:
Where most chemical reactions occur, suspends organelles in itself.
Cell membrane:
Controls what substances enters and exits the cell
Chloroplasts:
Responsible for photosynthesis (making the plant’s food)
Vacuole:
For storing sap and water and minerals, also contributes to the cell’s structure and integrity
Cell wall is:
Made of cellulose to keep the plant sturdy and to make a barrier from the environment.
Prokaryotes:
Single celled cells that don’t have a nucleus like bacteria, and instead have chromosomal DNA (a loop of DNA) and plasmids.
Eukaryotes:
Cells in animals and plants that do have a nucleus.
