Cell Structure Flashcards
Produce energy for the cell. Present in Eukaryotic cells.
Mitochondria
Protect the cell from its surroundings and controls what goes in and out of the cell. Present in Prokaryotic cells.
Cell Membrane
Give the cell strength/structure/filters molecules. Present in both Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
Cell Wall
Protect the cell from engulfment. Present in prokaryotic cells.
Capsule
Makes protein for the cell. Present in prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
Ribosome
DNA is housed there. Present in prokaryotic cells.
Nucleoid region
Stores DNA and coordinates activities. Present in Eukaryotic cells.
Nucleus
Serve as storage vessels and pigment. Present in prokaryotic cells.
Inclusion
Provide structure, storage, waste disposal, and growth. Present in prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
Vacuole
Gives strength to outer structure of the organism. Present in prokaryotic cells.
Peptidoglycan
Allow the cell to attach to their host. Present in prokaryotic cells.
Fimbriae
Provides protective coat from hoast factors. Present in Eukaryotic cells.
Glycocalyx
Forms lysosomes and vesicles(for cell secretion). Present in Eukaryotic cells.
Golgi complex
Allows a bacterial cell to attach to other cells. Present in prokaryotic cells.
Pili
Ensure survival of bacterium through periods of environmental stress. Present in prokaryotic cells.
