Cavity Nomenclature Flashcards
What are cavity margins?
The junction between the walls of the cavity preparation and the external surface of the tooth
What are cavosurface margin angles?
The angle formed at any point, on the junction of a preparation with the unprepared surface of the tooth
What is an acceptable cavosurface margin angle?
Ideally 90° but 60°-120° is clinically acceptable
What are line angles?
The line formed by the junction of two surfaces of a prepared or unprepared surface
What are point angles?
The angle formed by the junction of three surfaces
What is the occlusal/pulpal floor?
The occlusal floor of the cavity is the surface which is parallel to the occlusal plane and overlies the pulp
What is the gingival floor?
A cavity surface in an approximal cavity which is approximately parallel to the occlusal plane and is bounded externally by the gingival margin
What is an axial wall?
The axial wall is a cavity surface that is parallel to the long axis of the tooth
What is a buccal/lingual axial wall?
Cavity surface that is bounded by the cavosurface angle and the cavity floor
What is the isthmus?
Least wide part of the occlusal key cut in a proximo-occlusal preparation as a retentive form
