Catullus 107 Flashcards
Si cui quid cupido optantique obtigit unquam
insperanti, hoc est gratum animo proprie.
If anything ever fell to the lot of one who desired and prayed for it
But dared not hope- then this is really pleasing to the mind.
quare hoc est gratum nobis quoque, carius auro,
quod te restituis, Lesbia, mi cupido:
That is why this is pleasing and dearer to me than gold,
The fact that you, Lesbia, give yourself back to me who longs for you.
restituis cupido atque insperanti, ipsa refers te
nobis. o lucem candidiore nota!
You give yourself back to the desiring one who dares not hope, you come back
To us. O Day with a whiter mark!
quis me uno vivit felicior, aut magis hac res
optandas vita dicere quis poterit?
Who lives luckier than me, or who will be able to speak of things
More to be wished for than this life?
