Cardiovascular System Flashcards
provides nutrients and oxygen and carries away/ helps fight disease
Cardiovascular System -
process by which the blood moves between the heart and the lungs
Pulmonary circulation -
fluid that contains other parts of the blood; made up of mostly water; 55% of your blood volume consists of plasma
Plasma -
make up about 40% of normal blood; carry oxygen to the cells and carbon dioxide away from the cells
Red Blood Cells -
found in red blood cells and it’s the oxygen carrying protein in blood
Hemoglobin -
protect your body against infection and contain pathogens
White Blood Cells -
microorganisms that cause disease
Pathogens -
types of cells in the blood that cause blood clots to form
Platelets -
deliver blood to the capillaries
Arteries -
small vessels that carry blood; they control your body temperature
Capillaries -
are located throughout your body/collect oxygen; they carry the blood to your heart
Veins -
the measure of the amount of force that the blood vessels, mainly the large arteries, as it’s pumped through your body
Blood Pressure-
The cardiovascular system is formed by
the heart and blood vessels
The cardiovascular system is known for these 4 things:
- Carries oxygen from the lungs to your body’s cells
- Absorbs nutrients from food/delivers them to the body’s cells
- Carries carbon dioxide from your cells back to your lungs to be exhaled
- Carries white blood cells to fight diseases
the upper Chambers of the heart
the atria
the lower Chambers of the heart
the ventricles
how many Chambers does the heart have?
4; 2 upper and 2 lower
carries out the pulmonary circulation
Right side of the heart
where the blood returns from the lungs and is circulated again through the body
Left side of the heart
Your blood is made up of 4 components:
- Plasma
- Red blood cells
- White blood cells
- Platelets
4 types of blood:
- A
- B
- AB
- O
3 main types of blood vessels:
- Arteries
- Capillaries
- Veins
