Cardiopathology Gross & Histology Lab #3 Flashcards
Where is Os Cordis located and what is it? What animal?
Bone located under under the aortic valve in cattle. AV node lies parallel on the atrial right side and AV bundle goes under the bone.
What are hemal nodes?
lymphoid aggregates sometimes present on the mitral valve leaflets
Traumatic reticulopericarditis / “Hardware disease”
What is the pathway for pathogensis?
What is the pathway for Possible Sequela?
Lizzo brain
What is Granulomatous? What does Granulomatous inflammation look like?
Fungal: It was Coccidioides immitis (Valley Fever)
Predominately
macrophages +/- multinucleated giant cells
What is Lymphoplasmacytic and necrotizing?
Virus - It was Parvovirus
Myocarditis
What is suppurative inflammation?
What is the pathway for pathogenesis in this image?
What is the pathway for possible sequela in this image?

See answer for more info
How do changes relate to function?
Form affects function: Cardiomyocyte enlarged (hypertrophied) and increased fibrosis→ thick
stiff walls → decreased myocardial contractility
What is the difference between Dilated cardiomyopathy vs Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy?
What are possible causes for Dilated cardiomyopathy?
How does form affect function?
Cardiomyocyte loss, degeneration, and attenuation → thin flabby walls → decreased myocardial contractility
What are the primary heart tumors?
Hemangiosarcoma (Extremely Common)
Aortic body tumor/ Chemodectoma (Uncommon)
Pericardial mesothelioma (Rare)
Rhabdomyoma and rhabdomyosarcoma (Extremely rare)
What are the primary location and apperance of the 4 primary heart tumors? What is the major sequla for each?

Look at microscopic changes in the vessels
What kind of inflammation do you see and where is it located?
Why is the tunica media so thick?
What is the difference between Right Sided and Left Sided Heart Failure?
See next slide as well, Lizzo brain
What lesions do you see in the heart?
Are the heart having problems with pressure or
volume overload or both?
What kind of hypertrophy do you see or you
would suspect to initially develop?
